From YouTube to BackAware Pilates: My Journey to Core Strength at Home
Ever since Covid, I have made YouTube Fitness classes part of my routine. Prior to lockdowns I had been doing more live classes but the convivence and the cost savings have made Online classes more appropriate for me. One thing I miss though is the feedback on my form to make sure I am doing everything correctly.
A while ago I saw an advert on Instagram for the BackAware Belt.
What is the BackAware Belt?
It is a device that gives you feedback on your back position during exercise. They also have follow along Pilates classes where you can see your position. I was very intrigued and since it had a 30-day money back guarantee I thought what the hell and bought it. Here is how I found it.
Delivery and Set up of BackAware belt
When the BackAware Belt arrived I was able to get a 10 minute set up call to get the belt set up to my unique position and to discuss the best workouts for me to do which I thought was cool. I have been doing Pilates for a long time and liked the idea that they had different levels of class.
We decided on how many days and what would be the best workouts for me to do. I decided to really give it a good go for a few weeks.
How it is going?
I am not going to lie, the first few workouts were more tricky than usual to pay attention to my form. The belt vibrates when you are in a poor position, and you can see it visually on the screen. However, I discovered I was doing a lot of exercises with poor technique.
My plank has completely changed. I have to now try find a middle position with my spine and hold it there as I go from a kneeling plank to full plank and the burn is crazy!! Also by holding my pelvis in a certain way during bridging and squats it is targeting my legs and bum way more!
There are a lot of different options and it is great to have someone to check in with via WhatsApp or call to see what the best exercises are for me. I am liking the overall mix of strength, Pilates and a little mobility work.
Is it better than live studio classes?
For me I think studio classes would be better. However, the reason I have been doing YouTube classes is that I find it difficult to work these into my schedule (Travel or other commitments on my end), and I can’t really afford to be paying €50 per week in classes to exercise, unfortunately.
Is it better than YouTube Classes?
Yes! No adverts in the middle. Getting the feedback and having a person to check in with gives me a next best thing to having my own instructor. They check in weekly and are there for any questions. To check it out visit this page: https://backawarebelt.com.
